We want Heddfa to be usable by everyone who relies on it — care staff, managers and families — whatever their device or ability. Care teams work in a hurry, on their feet, often on phones; accessible design isn’t a nicety here, it’s part of the job working properly.
What we’re aiming for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA across both this website and the Heddfa platform. In practice that means:
- Clear, readable text with sufficient colour contrast against its background.
- The whole interface operable by keyboard, not only by mouse or touch.
- Sensible structure and labelling so screen readers can make sense of each page.
- A mobile-first, responsive layout that reflows cleanly on small screens and when text is enlarged.
- Meaningful text alternatives for images and icons that carry information.
Welsh language
Serving Wales matters to us, and so does the Welsh Government’s “active offer”. We’re building Welsh-language support into Heddfa and welcome feedback from Welsh-speaking teams on where we should prioritise it.
Where we’re not there yet
We’re honest that accessibility is ongoing rather than finished. Some areas are still being improved, and third-party components we embed (such as an external status monitor) may not fully match our standard. As a small family-run team we fix accessibility issues as we find them and as they’re reported.
Tell us about a problem
If you hit a barrier using this website or the Heddfa platform — or you need information in a different format — please email hello@heddfa.co.uk and tell us what happened and, if you can, the page or screen. We treat accessibility issues as real bugs and aim to reply within one working day.
